No campfires will be allowed in Los Padres

Santa Barbara News-Press 28 July 2005

Scott Hadly

The U.S. Forest Service has issued a series of restrictions to prevent possible fires in Los Padres National Forest.

Beginning July 30 and through the end of fire season, no campfires or charcoal fires will be allowed even with a valid California Campfire Permit. However, the permit will allow campers to use portable gas stoves and lanterns.

The new restrictions also ban smoking in the forest except within enclosed vehicles, buildings or designated smoking sites or campfire-use sites. The rules also state that driving cars, trucks, motorcycles and off-road vehicles is permitted only on roads and designated trails.
