Road to Red Rock Reopened to Vehicles

17 February 2012

Los Padres' Officials

Los Padres National Forest's Santa Barbara Ranger District announced today that the road to Red Rock has been reopened to motorized vehicles in time for the Presidents' Day holiday weekend. The road to the popular recreation destination has been closed since last summer due to needed repairs to the bridge at Lower Oso Day Use Area.

Those repairs were completed this past fall. Since that time, the road remained closed to allow the Forest Service to clear the road of accumulated debris from last year's winter and spring storms, and repair damage to other facilities caused by vandalism while the road was closed to vehicles. The concessionaire has also been working on general maintenance to the day use areas to prepare them for the public.

A reminder is that the entire Lower Santa Ynez Recreation Area is managed under permit by Rocky Mountain, Inc. and an Adventure Pass (day or annual) is required. There are numerous day use areas with picnic tables, restrooms, BBQs, and access to the river.

Camping in the Upper Santa Ynez Recreation Area is limited to established campgrounds through the reservation system http://www.recreation.gov/.
Visitors are strongly encouraged to plan ahead, come prepared, and contact the Los Prietos Ranger Station for the latest conditions by calling (805) 967-3481.
